Looking for the perfect Gundam
How much time do you spend looking for the next Gundam kit?
No, I'm not talking about that to go to a particular store and find a specific model on the shelf. I'm talking about the choice of the model that you would like to build, among all crazy variety of kits which our beloved and incredibly inventive Bandai, and all his imitators that's just all together is called a bootleg, offer to us...
And there is a lot of choice!
I do not even know where to start...
You can choose the scale, you can choose the series from which the mobile armor model
occurs, you can just choose a model ... you can choose, choose, choose...
Personally, it was really hard to stop... for now there
are only a few dozen kits that I would like to
buy… Only a few dozen…
How I succeeded it?! How
did I was able to identify and select only a few models, among perhaps
thousands of options available?
I'll tell you right away it was not easy. Especially in the beginning when
I did not know anything. When I looked at the pictures of built Gundams and
wanted them all!
I spent weeks was staring at the monitor, and tried to understand why different pictures
of the same mobile armor model does not look the same. In one photo the model
was extremely detailing, had a lot of moving
parts, it has opened up sheathing parts, and
under them there were elements of the mechanics of armor, model is covered with
a magnificent pattern of panels line, hatches,
holes and protrusions. And on the other photos, the same Gundam was similar to a five-year-old children odd job, cut with a dull knife
from a piece of soap...
So, I get Google a lot and found there are several
different scales and larger scale had the greater details, and it looks more realistic. And it turned out
that impressed me photos were mostly captured PG
and MG and the most sucks view
(I'm talking about that piece of soap) had HG.
And despite the fact that HG has the lowest
price and because of the box weight and the size of the box, it has the lowest
shipping cost. For myself, I immediately decided
I'm not going to build a high grade!
After seeing dozens of WIPs I realized high grade is
too simple in building, it is too lacked details, it looks
terrible compared to the MG and PG. The only
thing that suited to me in HG is the scale 1/144,
height of figure about 12 cm, is a great size!
It turned out that, Bandai, produces another series with
the same scale. It's real grade or a RG.
And it turned out that the cost of the kit is quite fit into my budget. Quite a bit exploring of built WIPs of real grades, I realized that
the RG is my only option for now. Thus, the list
of candidates to the first kit in my life greatly
reduced, had to choose only from twenty kits, but
even that was not so easy.
I liked almost everything! It was a real torment, I could not make the decision more than a week. Do not misunderstand me, then I chose my first Gundam kit. And considering it is not a
small cost + postage in, my country shipping cost
attain to the level of about half of the cost of kit...
For example, if I order PG Unicorn for $ 170 the
shipping cost me at least $ 80, for that money I
can buy four RG, such calculations always plunged
me into depression...
Anyway, to what has been said
above I might add that, I was not going to buy and buy and buy, I wanted to buy
a single kit, quench my
unrestrained curiosity, and leave this thread behind. Ha ha ha, only going to build one
Gundam, naive fool! >_<
Now I hope you understand me, I had to choose only one perfect Gundam.
But they are all so cool!
But they are all so cool!
What do i do?!
I had to come up with
something, and I came up with!
I went by contradiction, or rather if I can’t
choose the Gundam that I like most of all, I decided to drop the options that I
definitely do not like.
Believe me it is much easier. You just need to find a some sort of
disadvantage in model. And I began, at first I immediately
threw all Zaku, I do not like them absolutely not
detailed legs. Then I threw the Wing, I think that all these rounded lines are a presented
in winged design, do not fit a giant combat robot, Gundam must be brutal and strike fear into the hearts of
sinners ))) Next I threw the OO Gundams, then it
seemed to me that they look too much simple, almost
complete lack of panel line confused me and I decided
not to consider them as a future purchase. Next
Zeta, it more expensive than others. 78-2, MK-2 seemed to me it has much rough
shape, I decided that the first Gundam must have more
complex shapes than a set of cubes.
As a result, the choice narrowed down to four models from the series seed. I
began find fault in detail. One model I
did not like the skirt, the other foot, the third torso, in the fourth backpack...
In eyes blinking there was no more choice! More precisely there are remaining only one, it
was Justice!
Then I was sure, it is the perfect choice,
excellent shape, aggressive color, all the details are satisfied
me and a great bonus in form of a winged flying thing!
The torment behind, the order issued, payment is made, the endless weeks
delivery waiting behind, sending received, the box is open, Gundam built...
And everything seems to be behind ... but nothing of the sort ... I was sure that build the only
one, but it turned out that I built the first...
I think you understand me now).
Gundam plastic model can not be only one. It enough to build only one, and
you're all infected with this feeling forever! I
can compare it with a thirst, now and for many
years you will suffer by unbearable thirst, it
will force you to buy the Gundam model kit again and again...
Did you know what the worst thing? With every new purchase it more and more
difficult to make a choice, because most interested to you model, you have
bought and built already.
And on this, the question of how to choose the next Gundam, impossible to defeat.
This choice is the same difficult as
the first time, every time. Even though the number
of options decreased, because something you've already built, make a choice
still infinitely difficult.
In this case, whether to consider it a problem?
I think no!
I think, given how much time I spend on the choice of Gundam kit, this should be part of the hobby. I mean Ganpla
hobby. Ganpla is not only plastic mobile armor models, it is also everything
that surrounds and accompanies the building of
models and collecting it.
And procedure for choosing a the next kit is also part of
Ganpla. Therefore, do not need to strive to reduce this process. Let it go on, and I will enjoy the emotions and
feelings that accompany it. From now on, kit
selection, do not torture for me, it's joy!!! And, considering how much I have not built, there
is a lot of joy! )))
